A couple of years ago, in 2016, a new variety of panicle hydrangea appeared, which was bred by the French breeder J. Renault. This is Pastel Green. At an international exhibition in the Netherlands, he was awarded a silver award for the beauty of a shrub with inflorescences that change colors and shades of petals (first they are white, then they become creamy, salmon, pistachio, and by the end of flowering - wine). And after that, the Pastel Green hydrangea conquered the world because the entire warm season (from the 2nd decade of June to the beginning of September, and in warm regions from the end of spring to frost) remains densely and luxuriantly covered with inflorescences.

Characteristics of the variety

The plant is characterized by lush flowering, a neat small bush, frost resistance.

Description of the plant

Hydrangea bush Pastel is compact and neat. According to information from a French nursery, an adult plant stretches up to 1.2 m in height. Its width reaches 1.2 m. The hydrangea inflorescences of this variety are spherical, lush, the peduncle reaches 15-20 cm in length. The flowers have 4 rounded petals. In summer, the leaves are green, in autumn the leaves turn yellow.

Due to the small parameters, the bushes of this panicle hydrangea can be grown in containers at home, cultivated in small areas.

Frost resistance

Hydrangea paniculate Pastel Green has increased winter hardiness. Small bushes, delighting in summer with delicate inflorescences and a harmonious look, withstand the difficult conditions of a harsh winter with a frost of 30 degrees.

Important! The variety can be planted in Central Russia, Siberia, and the Urals.

Requirements for soil and watering

Hydrangea Pastel Green is unpretentious. It thrives on any soil and grows well on ordinary garden soil. But, of course, like other hydrangeas, he loves fertile, humus-rich soils more. The variety is not picky about sunlight either - the bush grows in a shaded place and in an area open to the sun. Due to direct sunlight, the inflorescences do not lose their brightness, the leaves do not fade, and the plant remains as magnificent as growing in a shaded area.

Important!For this variety, a slight overdrying of the earth is permissible.

What's important for this hydrangea is proper watering. An ornamental shrub does not tolerate excessively moistened soil, and therefore requires moderate watering.

Watering the Pastel Green hydrangea is necessary so that drops of water do not fall on the ground parts of the plant, that is, strictly under the bush.

Reproduction and planting

Like other panicle hydrangeas Pastel Green, hydrangea reproduces:

  • Seeds... They are immediately sown without pre-sowing preparation in seedling containers with moist soil, without deepening. To create comfortable conditions, cover with plastic wrap or glass. Seedlings appear in 2 weeks. The seedlings are grown within 2 years, planted in open ground for 3 years of growth. By the time of disembarkation, they must reach a height of at least 30 cm.
  • Cuttings... This method is most common among florists and gardeners. Cuttings, or leafy part of a plant with several buds, are obtained from cut young shoots.

Important! The most successful time for green cuttings of hydrangea is the time of the appearance of the first buds - around the middle of summer. The best time is early morning.

The top is removed from the cut shoot, the remainder is cut into pieces with 2-3 pairs of leaves. The lower leaves of the cuttings obtained are removed, and the upper ones are thinned by half. The cuttings are placed in a root growth stimulant solution so that the leaves are not in the liquid. After a thickening with roots appears at the end, the plant is planted in shallow containers 10 cm high with prepared moist soil.

Important!The soil for the cuttings is prepared by mixing peat and sand in a 2: 1 ratio.

The planting material is grown in a greenhouse or in the summer they are placed in containers in the garden and covered with a jar or spanbond, and with the onset of cold weather they are brought into a warm room. The cuttings are watered regularly. After a month, they take root, and new leaves appear on the young plant. The cover can now be removed.

In the spring, a plant is planted in a permanent place in open ground when it is old enough.

Note! The purchased bush or grown by division can be dug in in the fall along with the pot, making a shelter for it, and transplanted in the spring.

Further care

Although hydrangea is unpretentious, it still requires attention. Caring for her is as follows:

  • Watering is regular, but without waterlogging. The variety allows the land to dry out. Water the Pastel Green hydrangea abundantly once a week and always under a bush. But it is important to remember that the plant is damaged by moisture on the leaves and inflorescences.
  • Top dressing is applied in autumn and during the growing season. In September and October, the plant is fed with mineral fertilizers; in early spring, a urea solution is added at the rate of 20 g per 1 bucket of water. One adult bush needs 20 liters of such feeding. During the flowering period, a complex mineral fertilizer is applied twice with a break of 15 days.
  • Mulching prevents weeds from growing and retains moisture in the soil. As a mulch for hydrangea, special flooring, sawdust, crushed tree bark, peat moss are used.

Pruning

Like other shrubs with flowering shoots, Pastel Green hydrangea is thinned out in spring. The decorativeness of the bushes in summer largely depends on the chosen time. Pruning in the fall can harm the plant and reduce the stamina it needs in winter.

Important! The best time for pruning is the spring time, when the buds have just swollen.

The procedure is performed by:

  • sanitary, removing dried and damaged branches, old inflorescences from the bush;
  • forming a bush. This pruning is important in the early years when the plant is growing rapidly and strong shoots need to be given the right direction. When pruning, the bush is thinned out, leaving only strong, strong shoots. A forming cut is made all the time until the burglary bush is given the desired shape;
  • anti-aging. It is carried out annually on adult bushes, shortening the shoots to 4 buds so that the flowers are large. For a radical rejuvenation of the bush, processes that are more than 4 years old are removed under the base.

Important!In the fall, after flowering, faded inflorescences need to be removed from the bush so that snow does not accumulate on them in winter. Under its weight, the branches of the bush can break.

Pastels in landscape design

Pastel Green bushes (they can be considered as trees) get along well with other varieties of hydrangeas. They can be used both in compositions and as a stand-alone plant. Common cereals will become attractive companions of panicle hydrangea: rod-shaped millet, miscanthus, feather grass. With their simple beauty, they emphasize the sophistication of the varietal plant.
