Among all varieties of rose bushes, hybrid tea varieties are the most popular. The original colors of the buds are the main reason that gardeners and landscape designers are actively using these varieties, planting them in flower beds, in ribbon lawns, and also using them in single plantings. Hybrid tea rose Abracadabra is one of the most popular varieties of the "queen of flowers", despite the fact that this variety was bred relatively recently.

Description of hybrid tea varieties, the history of the creation of the Abracadabra variety

Hybrid tea varieties of roses are a relatively young variety of these beautiful flowers. The first such variety appeared about one and a half centuries ago in France, its creator was the French breeder Guillot, who crossed the Chinese tea and remontant varieties of roses. The name of this variety is "La France". It is with this variety that the history of breeding modern hybrid tea varieties of the "queen of flowers" begins.

Rose Abracadabra

On the shoots of these modern flowering perennials, up to 2-4 buds can often form, however, experienced growers prefer to remove excess buds, leaving the largest and most beautiful flower on each stem.

The most original and unusual color of blossoming buds is the Abracadabra rose, the unusual variegated color of the flower immediately attracts attention. In total, there are three varieties of the Abracadabra variety:

  • tea-hybrid;
  • floribunda, Kordes, 2002;
  • floribunda, Kordes, 2004.

A hybrid tea variety of this variety was bred in a California nursery by American breeder William Warriner in 1991. Two years later, this variety was presented to specialists at a flower exhibition by the Jackson and Perkins Company, the name of the new variety is Abracadabra hybrid tea rose.

Additional Information! The basis for obtaining a new variety was the hybrid tea roses White Masterpiece and Tribute.

The buds are bicolor, in the middle they are white with a pinkish tint, and the outer petals are more intense pink. The flowers are usually located one by one on the stem, but they can form inflorescences of several buds. The stems are covered with a large number of thorns.

Floribundas Abracadabra 2002 and 2004 were bred in Germany by breeders from the famous nursery W / Kordes Sons, in the process of breeding Hocus pocus rose was used. The color of the flowers of the floribunda Abracadabra is variegated. The main colors are white, red, cream, yellow, brown. They form various spots, strokes, stripes. Such flowers do not have a smell, there are practically no thorns on the shoots.

Floribunda 2004 was bred 2 years after the first, but it was introduced as a variety of Abracadabra only 10 years later. The flowers of this variety are densely double, the color range of the buds is in white and light pink tones. The stems are poorly studded.

Characteristics and description of the variety

Description of the Abracadabra rose should begin with a story about the bush itself. This perennial can grow as a shrub or as a small tree. In height, erect or spreading shoots can reach 1.5 m, woody stems have a characteristic dark emerald color, and young shoots have a rich green color. The foliage is dark green in color, tough, with a characteristic glossy sheen. In the open field, the color of the leaves becomes slightly brownish.

These varieties of Abracadabra were bred specifically for cutting, therefore, these roses are characterized by strong, tall, erect stems, on the tops of which single buds bloom. A powerful sprawling shrub, skilled gardeners, with the help of formative pruning, can turn it into a standard tree.

Note! Climbing rose Abracadabra, due to its branchiness, looks good on arches and fences.

Blooming flowers are double, in diameter they can be from 7.5 to 12.5 cm, petals are wide at the base, with pointed tips. The scent of the buds is delicate, typically floral. In the coloring of the petals, several colors prevail at the same time - white, yellow, red, brown.

These are the main characteristics of the Abracadabra hybrid.

Gardeners most often grow this variety for cutting, since the flowers of this hybrid are unusually beautiful and are in great demand among buyers. The flower stalks of this rose accumulate a large amount of useful substances during the flowering period, therefore, after cutting, they can stand in vases for up to 12-14 days. Florists make beautiful bouquets, combining the Abracadabra rose with other flowers, which gives the composition an unusual charm.

Interesting! With proper care, this variety can bloom several times per season, and when grown in greenhouse conditions, the Abracadabra hybrid rose blooms throughout the year.

In the southern regions, this perennial shrub can be grown in the open field, but it should be remembered that the winter hardiness of this rose is low - the bushes can withstand cold only up to -10⸰С.

In landscape design, this hybrid is used both in single plantings and in composition with other bush rose varieties, as well as with coniferous shrubs and small trees.

The best plants with which you can combine the Abracadabra hybrid:

  • lilac;
  • scumpia;
  • yellow acacia;
  • cotoneaster;
  • euonymus;
  • snowberry;
  • sea buckthorn;
  • privet;
  • spruce;
  • thuja;
  • juniper.

Agrotechnics

Before planting seedlings of this hybrid, you should choose the right place for planting. The site should be well lit by the sun's rays, but it is better to shade the plant from the hot midday sun, otherwise the color of the petals may "burn out". Also, the place where Abracadabra will grow must be protected from gusts of cold wind.

The soil on the site should be prepared in the fall - dig up, at the same time adding rotted manure or compost to the soil. In the spring, before planting seedlings, complex mineral fertilizers are applied to the soil. In this case, in the first season, the bushes of the hybrid tea variety are not fed.

Planting Abracadabra seedlings does not differ from planting other varieties of roses. But it should be remembered - when planting in spring, the seedlings have time to root well over the summer, therefore, by the onset of cold weather, the plants will noticeably grow and get stronger. And when planting in the autumn, the time should be calculated so that the plant is planted in open ground a month and a half before the onset of frost.

Important! If the soil pH is too high, lime is added to the soil in the fall. For 1 sq m, at least 300 g is required.

Further care for the planted bushes is simple and includes:

  • regular watering at least 1 time in 7 days, if the weather is dry and hot, the number of waterings is increased;
  • these plants should be fertilized with special dressings for roses, which can be purchased in any specialized stores. Many growers also recommend periodically watering Abracadabra with a solution of cow dung;
  • formative pruning of this hybrid shrub is carried out in the spring, while removing dry, broken or frozen shoots;
  • for preventive purposes, it is recommended to treat the rose from rust with a solution of copper oxychloride (0.4%) in the spring; Bordeaux liquid or Topaz is used against powdery mildew;
  • from the main pests, it is best to treat these bushes with Sunmight, Mospilan, Acrophyte or other similar preparations;
  • after each watering, it is necessary to loosen the trunks in order to remove the appearing crust, as well as to remove weeds;
  • before the onset of cold weather, the bushes should be covered with spruce branches, and on top - with a special covering material.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The main advantages of this variety include:

  • original, unusual appearance of blossoming buds;
  • in open ground, it blooms repeatedly during the summer season, and in greenhouses, Abracadabra blooms all year round;
  • this variety is used mainly for cutting;
  • cut buds can stand in a vase of water for up to 12-14 days.

Note! There are practically no drawbacks to this hybrid tea rose, it should be noted that it is low resistance to frost, therefore, in regions with cold winters, it is better to grow shrubs in greenhouses.

The Abracadabra hybrid tea rose is not yet so common in garden plots in Russia, but if a florist decides to plant it on his site, then this hybrid will undoubtedly become the main decoration of the flower bed.
