Attempts by breeders to develop a variety of black roses began as early as 1870. That is why several dozen different hybrids have become the results of research and experiments. Still, a pure black rose was never obtained. According to the recognition of world-famous breeders, the Black Baccarat rose became the blackest flower of this species. The tea-hybrid variety Black Magic has a slightly less black color.

The history of the creation of the variety

The employees of the most famous flower company in France, Meilland International, worked on the development of this variety of roses. The first presentation of the Black Baccarat hybrid tea rose took place at the very beginning of the 2000s of the XXI century. A few years later, the seedlings went on sale.

It should be noted that the flowers are not black, but maroon color. And only the very core of the rose has a black tint. The peak of the dark color is in the autumn season.

Important! The color of a rose directly depends on the acidity of the soil in which it grows. If the acidity is high, then the color is much more intense and saturated.

Description of the variety

If all conditions for growth are created for the plant, then its height can reach one meter, and its diameter is slightly more than half a meter.

Rose Black Baccarat

The appearance of the flowers resembles a glass. The average diameter of the flowers is about 10-12 cm. Each flower has at least 45 petals, the shape of which resembles a star.

Black Baccara is a rose with a rather subtle and pleasant aroma that pleases flower growers during the entire flowering period of the plant.

Leaves are dark green with a reddish tint.

The main feature of this variety is the complete absence of thorns, which allows them to be classified as cut-off species. A bouquet of Black Baccarat roses is able to melt the heart of any girl, even the most unapproachable one. Roses of this type will be a wonderful decoration for any celebration.

The black rose has excellent immunity, which allows it to tolerate the attacks of insect pests, as well as various diseases. Basically, these roses are grown for further cutting. Also, the variety of black roses grows well in gardens and pleases the eye of its owners. After all, the shrub blooms from the very beginning of June to the end of September.

Important! For the entire warm season, the plant is able to bloom 2-4 times.

The hybrid tolerates winter frosts well. But this black rose needs shelter, like all other varieties of the "queen of flowers".

Planting and leaving

From the above, it is clear that this type of rose is grown in the open field. But there are two things to note here. First, if the growing zone is a warm region of the country, then the plant is planted in the fall. Conversely, if the winters in the region are harsh, then it is necessary to plant seedlings in the spring.

In autumn, the best period will be from September 15 to October 15, then, before the onset of frost, the seedlings will have time to take root and get stronger.

Important! One of the most important things to consider when planting is plant grafting. Whether the bush is grafted, you can ask the sellers. The best place to buy young stock is a specialized nursery as well as large garden shops.

The area of its growth has a beneficial effect on the growth and flowering of a rose. It is best if it is a place where partial shade is observed at noon. A short shrub should be planted next to the rose. It is best to plant the plant in an acidic soil - this will provide a richer color of the roses.

Important! Before planting seedlings, you do not need to add wood ash to the hole, the rose does not need such an additive at all.

Soil preparation consists of the following steps:

  • Digging. This should be done deep enough, about 30-40 cm deep.
  • If the soil is heavy enough, then before planting you need to add river sand and peat to it.
  • Organic fertilizers, in the form of compost or humus, will not become superfluous.

After the planting pit is ready, it is necessary to lay a few centimeters of drainage on its bottom, which I use as small pebbles. Then they cover it with a small amount of earth and put the bush itself.

Important! Before planting, a young bush should be held in warm water for forty minutes. This procedure will help the roots to expand and get the moisture they need.

The plant is planted in such a way that the root system is completely in the hole, and the root collar is 3 cm above the soil level. The correctness of the actions is shown by the fact that the seedling holds well in the ground. With proper planting, after a couple of weeks, the root system of roses should be replenished with new young roots.

If the Black rose was planted in September, then in May it forms a rather strong bush. But, the seedlings planted in the spring will lag slightly in growth and development.

Reproduction

Separation of bushes can be carried out only after their age approaches five years. Yes, you can divide the bush into two identical plants. But it is worth remembering that these actions will lead to a lack of flowering and significantly slow down the growth of the bushes.

The best way to propagate a plant is by cuttings. This method will not affect the well-being of the mother bush in any way. And the cuttings will grow into a full-fledged rose bush in three years.

Black Baccarat rose propagation

Cuttings are cut at an angle of 45 °, or immediately under the bud. The most optimal cutting length is 15 cm. But it must be remembered that the mother bush must be absolutely healthy. To cut the cutting, you need to choose a strong branch that has grown this year.

Planting cuttings is carried out in the first month of summer, first in a planting box with nutritious soil, so that the seedling gives roots. And only a year later, after the plant gets stronger, the black rose seedlings are planted in open ground, of course, after hardening. In the first fall, the small plant is carefully covered.

Care

Caring for roses of this variety requires a lot of attention and effort. After all, such actions as watering, pruning and preparing for winter frosts require special skills and knowledge.

Watering

Water a black rose only with warm water, in the early morning or late evening. Low temperature water will be a huge stress for the plant.

Important! In no case should water be poured onto the trunk of the bush, as this can lead to fungal diseases, which will subsequently lead to the death of the seedling.

The frequency of irrigation and the required volume of water depend on the region of growth and the abundance of precipitation. However, it should be remembered that this type of growth needs abundant watering. A mandatory action after good watering is to loosen the soil in the peri-stem circle. But this must be done very carefully so as not to damage the root system of roses.

Fertilizers

Mulching is an excellent solution. It must be produced with sawdust and wood shavings. Mulching perfectly retains moisture and significantly slows down the growth of weeds. The first feeding is carried out with nitrogen fertilizers, which can accelerate plant growth. Fertilizers are applied in early spring, immediately after the shelter is removed from the rose.

Complex fertilizers

The second feeding is carried out during the period of active growth of shoots. In this case, complex fertilizers are perfect.

During the active formation of buds, you need to feed the bush with chicken droppings or manure. Before covering the plants for the winter, it is necessary to add any potash fertilizers to the soil.

The nuances of trimming

During the period of active flowering, it is imperative to remove wilted buds.Plant pruning is done only in spring and autumn. In the spring, you need to cut off dry and damaged shoots, as well as some parts of the stems - just above the fourth bud. Trimming is carried out at an angle of 45 °. The tool used is a secateurs. Before the procedure, the instrument must be disinfected.

Important! Pruning is carried out only after the kidneys have woken up.

In autumn, shoots that have faded are subject to pruning. And all the rest just need to be shortened to 30-40 cm. Also, in the fall, work is carried out to remove absolutely all the leaves. The crown of the bush should be bare. Only then can the rose be covered.

Diseases and pests

Rose Black Baccarat does not suffer from such a disease as powdery mildew. But it can be damaged by some insect pests:

  • green aphid;
  • spider mite;
  • thrips;
  • cicada.

To prevent these pests, they use products that are sold in specialized retail outlets.

Rose Black Baccarat is a plant that is happily used to create landscaping. It is planted in partial shade, where most flower crops simply cannot survive.

This variety of roses will decorate any garden and will always stand out from the variety of plants. Of course, the plant requires a lot of attention, but it will delight with its aroma and beauty of flowers for several years.
