Having appeared in Europe only at the beginning of the 18th century, today climbing roses are a favorite plant of florists and designers. Due to their properties, variety of varieties and special decorativeness, they are widely used in vertical gardening of both garden and park landscapes and household plots. One of the most interesting representatives of the species is the Palais Royal rose.

Description of the variety

Rose Palais Royal (Palais Royal rose) is a prominent representative of the climbing family. The variety was bred in 2005 by French breeders of the house of Meyan through a genetic modification of Pierre de Ronsard.

For reference: in some sources, the name of the variety in Russian sounds like Palace Royal Rose. The spellings Palais Royal, Palace Royal or Palais Royal rose are also possible - it is believed that all these variants of the name are acceptable.

The climbing rose Pale Royal blooms in the period June-October, abundantly, with large white flowers, with a delicate pink-purple cloud in the center.

The flower is cup-shaped, antique-shaped, collected from 100 double petals, reaches 12-13 cm in diameter. In one brush, there are on average 3-4 flowers. A distinctive feature in comparison with other varieties is that the rose blooms along the entire length of the shoot.

The aroma is light, poorly expressed. The foliage is large, dense, glossy, dark green. The plant is hardy, fast-growing. The shoots of an adult plant are more than two meters long, the bush grows up to 2.5 meters wide.

The cultivar is immune to rose diseases such as powdery mildew and black spot. Resistant to drought and frost, belongs to the 6th zone of winter hardiness, withstands temperatures down to -23 ° C. It tolerates precipitation in the form of rain well, but it is advisable to choose the landing site away from the drains.

How to plant a rose correctly

Planting a rose bush Palais Royal is most favorable in April-June, in areas with a warm climate, planting is possible in September - first half of October. The place chosen for planting a rose should be ventilated, without drafts, preferably in the sun or in partial shade.

The soil prepared for planting should be neutral or slightly acidic, fertile, well-drained. Since the root system of the plant is quite developed, planting in the ground in flooded areas is not desirable.

Planting a rose bush

A climbing rose is planted in a previously prepared trench about 60 cm deep, with an incline of 30 degrees to the support. Pre-long and damaged roots are cut to healthy wood.

Important! When planting, it is important to place the seedling in the trench so that the root collar is underground.

Growing a rose

Caring for the Palace Royale Rose includes abundant watering on hot days, regular loosening of the soil for better air exchange, weed control, disease prevention, seasonal fertilization with nitrogen and potassium-phosphorus fertilizers, pruning, shelter for the winter.

It is important to shelter in a timely manner, not earlier and not later than the temperature drops below -7 ° C. For this, the plant, previously cut to 30-40 cm, is spudded, covered with spruce branches. A frame is erected on top, which, in turn, is covered with insulation and a greenhouse film. When covered, vents are left for air circulation in the spring.

How to cover roses for the winter

Pruning is done multiple times. In spring and autumn, sick, damaged and dead shoots are removed for preventive and sanitary purposes. During the flowering period, light and formative pruning is carried out to remove faded peduncles.

Important! In the first year, for better survival and wintering, peduncles are freed from buds as much as possible, leaving a maximum of 2 buds.

The climbing rose of the Palais Royal propagates by cuttings of young and strong shoots harvested after the first wave of flowering. This method allows you to maximize all the best qualities of the variety.

Palais Royal looks great on pergolas, walls of houses, on vertical supports on flower beds and lawns. For its decorative appearance, the variety has deservedly received many awards.
