The exact origin of these unusual chickens is not known, most likely they come from China, but when they appeared, it is impossible to determine. The first mentions of this breed are recorded in the chronicles of the Ming dynasty, which China protects like the apple of an eye. The heavily pronounced name Uheyilui (there are variations in different sources: chickens Uhei Ulyui, Uhei Ilui, Uhei I Lui) translates as four black and one green. The green one is the egg, and the black ones are the bones, skin, meat, and comb. Moreover, this translation literally corresponds to the breed characteristics of this bird.

Through the efforts of scientists, it was found that the ancestors of this variety of "black" chickens are wild pheasants and Chinese silk chickens. According to legend, Wuheyilu chickens were discovered by scientists in one of the provinces of China in the 80s of the last century. The performed genetic analysis confirmed the purebredness of the birds found. The process of reviving the breed was complicated by the scanty number of representatives found - only 1 cockerel and 2 females.

Only thanks to the painstaking work of scientists was it possible to preserve this rare species. For a long time, chickens were on the verge of extinction.

Chickens Uheyiluy

Interesting. The bird is very rare, in China it is protected as a state value, but still they can be found in private farmsteads.

Features of the breed

Uheyiluy breed of chickens description and characteristics:

  • head covered with dark purple skin, slightly pubescent, lobes of similar color;
  • voluminous, leaf-shaped type of scallop, with 5-6 points, well-developed catkins;

Chickens Liuyang

Chickens are quite peaceful, have a calm character, are active, curious, easily contact with humans.

Average egg production - up to 160-180 pieces from one hen per year. The eggs are small in size - 48-53 g, with a rather voluminous yolk, compared to ordinary chicken ones, it is 8-10% larger. Chicken of average productivity, meat and egg orientation, is more decorative.

Note. The peak of productivity is the first three years, then the indicator goes down.

Females have a very well-developed maternal instinct, which allows them to breed offspring without any problems, without resorting to outside help.

Conditions of detention

The content of these unusual chickens is no different from other breeds. Chickens must have free range, where they will have the opportunity to get pasture. The poultry house (chicken coop) must be clean, cleaned on time, the floor always with fresh bedding (straw, sawdust, dry grass). During periods of low temperatures in the room, a minus indicator is unacceptable, as well as heat, a thermometer mark at 15 degrees is ideal. For the prevention of parasites in the pen, it is recommended to put a container with ash, sand so that the chicken can swim there.

Keeping chickens

Moulting of chickens begins in the autumn period, when the length of daylight hours is noticeably reduced, for this period the qualitative and quantitative indicator of the diet should be improved. It is not recommended to postpone the time frame of the shedding process using additional lighting, this will negatively affect performance.

Mandatory manipulations:

  1. systematic cleaning of the litter so that droppings do not accumulate;
  2. "General day" once a year, preferably in the spring - cleaning, disinfection, whitewashing or painting of the premises;
  3. washing drinkers and feeders every day;
  4. replacement of nests, their cleaning;
  5. monthly replacement of ash, sand in the bath.

Daily feeds should include greens

Adult menu:

  1. daily feedings should include greens and vegetables (≥65%), in the winter season they are replaced with dry grass, roots and vitamin supplements (carrots, beets, potatoes, which are grated or finely chopped);
  2. use various types of cereals or mixed feed;
  3. daily addition of mineral mixtures to the feed, chickens need calcium to maintain egg production;
  4. in the cold season, the mash is made warm by adding warmed broth, water;
  5. in winter, the nutritional value of the daily menu should be higher, since chickens require a lot of energy to keep warm;
  6. pour only fresh, clean drinking water into the drinker.

Chickens eat little, prefer soft foods.

Attention! The use of premixes is prohibited, they can harm the health of chickens.

Breeding

Breeding this breed is a pleasure, not only chickens are endowed with a sensitive maternal feeling, even males, who can easily replace a quail and incubate eggs (not a fact, but poultry farmers talk about this). Females after six months (sometimes even earlier, from 4.5-6 months) of life are able to hatch eggs. The survival rate of young animals is very high, not less than 95%. Chickens Uheyiluy are quite dependent on maternal care, they are shy, alert and in need of continuous protection. The livestock is rejuvenated gradually.

Important! Fertilization should come from different lines of chickens, incest will put the health of the offspring at risk.

Basic chick care:

  1. young offspring need a warm room, protected from drafts and sudden temperature jumps;
  2. chicks who have not reached the age of seven days cannot be transported categorically, the trip leads to the death of most of the offspring;
  3. from the first days, chickens are fed only with green eggs, then cereals (semolina, wheat, corn) are gradually added;
  4. the growing generation is sure to add cottage cheese and greens to food;
  5. fresh water must be constantly present in the cells;
  6. vaccination in strict order.
