This hybrid was bred by Moscow breeders. It received the status of a variety in 2007, when it was entered in the state register. Its full name is Emerald Stream f1, but the index is usually not written.

Hybrid characteristics

Cucumbers Emerald Stream is an early ripening variety, cucumbers appear only on the 44-48 day of the growing season. At the same time, fruiting is long, cucumbers continue to grow for a long time after the first fruits have been harvested. The total yield of this variety reaches 5 kg per square meter in the open field and 6 kg in the greenhouse.

The Emerald Stream hybrid plant has the following properties:

  • stem length is average;
  • the plant does not give a significant number of branches;
  • leaves are few and large;
  • average climbing rate;
  • hybrid ovaries are of the bundle type;
  • lateral shoots grow well, their color is dark green;
  • pollination of the plant by bees is not required, the hybrid does not depend on them, as a result of which it can be grown in various conditions: in the open field, in a greenhouse, on a balcony or loggia.

Cucumbers Emerald Stream

The Emerald Stream cucumber belongs to the Chinese type, in other words, they are larger than standard cucumbers. The average length is 20 centimeters, while the maximum indicator can reach up to half a meter (some reported 80 centimeters). Zelentsov's description includes the following characteristics:

one cucumber has an average weight of 150 grams, but some specimens can reach 200 or more;

  • cylindrical shape;
  • the thickness of the green peel is minimal, almost invisible when eaten;
  • there are many tubercles on the surface of the fetus;
  • the color of the cucumbers is dark green, near the base of the peduncle it is even darker, reaching black;
  • the taste of the fruit is excellent;
  • they are not bitter at all.

You can use mature greens:

  • fresh;
  • adding to salad;
  • in okroshka;

Note! It will not be possible to preserve them as a whole, the fruits are too large. However, small copies can be harvested as a whole.

Growing Cucumbers Emerald Stream

The method of growing these hybrids is determined by the region. In the middle lane of the country, you should start with seedlings, and then transplant into the ground. In the south, you can immediately plant seeds in the garden.

If the seedling method is chosen, a suitable soil should be prepared. It is necessary to mix one part of sand, humus and wood ash with three parts of turf soil. Further, the seedlings should be kept in containers for 25-30 days; by the end of this period, 3-4 leaves should form in the plants.

Important! For this variety, light, well-loosening soils are suitable. At the same time, heavy soil with a high level of acidity or excessive moisture content will not work.

It is also desirable that there is a lot of light in this zone; in its absence, the Emerald Stream will still bear fruit, however, their taste characteristics will be noticeably reduced, and this will become obvious only when they have already grown and matured.

It is undesirable to plant a crop on the same bed for two years in a row, the soil should take a break from it and recover. A good step is to take a break of two years or more. It is advisable to plant cucumbers after crops such as:

  • white cabbage and cauliflower;
  • tomatoes;
  • potatoes;
  • eggplant;
  • pea;

You should not alternate cucumbers in one place with their closest relatives: pumpkins, squash and zucchini, as well as with melons: watermelons and melons.

Training

In the fall, the area where the cultivation of cucumbers is planned for next year should be dug up and fertilized.

Sowing is carried out in the spring, observing the following rules:

  • the land is pre-fed with fertilizers containing potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen;
  • when landing in open ground, you need to make sure that there is no threat of frost (in the middle zone of the country this is the second half or even the end of May);
  • the average daily temperature should reach at least 15 °, the same indicator for soil should be 10–12 °. If you plan to grow cucumbers in a greenhouse, there are no such restrictions; they are planted in closed structures in March;
  • cucumber seeds (if they are planted, and not seedlings) are buried by about 3-4 centimeters. In this case, the distance between plants in a row should be 30 cm, and between rows - 50 cm.

Cucumber seeds

In the process of growing plants, care for them must be done in compliance with the following recommendations:

  • watering with warm water should be regular, preferably in the evening. At the same time, it is impossible to allow water to fall on the leaves of plants, so that a directed stream erodes the layer of earth above the shallow roots of cucumbers and exposes them;
  • following this procedure, the soil is loosened, also trying not to touch the roots;
  • if the Emerald Stream is grown in a greenhouse, it is required to ventilate it after watering, otherwise the humidity in it will critically increase;
  • during the entire growing season, cucumbers need to be fed. The recommended types of fertilizers are mixtures of humus and rotted manure, the recommended frequency is once every 7 days;
  • when stepsons are formed, they are removed after the fourth sheet;
  • plants need to be pinched;
  • pollinating cucumbers is not required, the number of female flowers they have is quite sufficient.

You can pick the fruits when they reach an average size of 18 centimeters, if you keep them further in the garden, they will overripe.

Due to the properties of this hybrid, it can be grown both in the city and at home, including in winter. In this case, you must first place the seeds in medium-sized containers in which they are grown as seedlings for the first month. Further, the seedlings are moved into containers, the size of which is already from 5 to 7 liters and placed on a windowsill or balcony.

Note! The Emerald Stream is often confused with the Emerald Cucumber. These are completely different varieties.

Hybrid advantages

Emerald Stream has the following strengths:

  • early ripening variety;
  • the first fruits are formed and ripen amicably, the gardener immediately has a sufficient number of them at his disposal;
  • at the same time, the hybrid continues to produce crops for a long time;
  • ready-made zelents have excellent taste, no bitterness;
  • the cucumber smell of the fruit is felt very clearly;
  • good commercial properties.

Plants are resistant to a variety of diseases, including powdery mildew and cladosporiosis. This unique set of properties makes Emerald Stream a desirable resident in the garden and greenhouse.
