In many regions of Russia, spring is cold, and summer is not too long, so summer residents grow vegetables in hotbeds and greenhouses. At the same time, vegetable growers choose seeds of early cucumbers and tomatoes in order to get a harvest in a short summer season in greenhouses. Cucumber Adam is one of these early maturing hybrid varieties that is great for indoor and outdoor cultivation.

The history of the creation of the variety

The variety was bred by Dutch breeders from the Bejo Zaden firm. This company specializes in developing new varieties and hybrids, as well as producing the best seed material.

Cucumber Adam

The seeds, which are produced by the specialists of this company, are sold in many countries of the world, including in our country. The seed material of Adam cucumbers was included in the State Register of Russia, it is recommended for cultivation in most regions of the country.

Description and main characteristics of the variety

This cucumber is vigorous and medium-growing, belongs to the indeterminate varieties. On all lashes, only female flowers grow, so the plant is self-pollinated.

Especially often Adam cucumbers are grown in the middle lane, in Siberia and the Urals, because this hybrid is early ripening - less than two months pass from the moment the first sprouts appear to harvest.

Note! The crop can be harvested throughout the season - first on the main lash, and then on the side shoots.

Since the main and side lashes can grow endlessly, their tops are pinched at a height of about 1.6-1.9 m. Bushes require mandatory tying to trellises or other supports. After pinching the main lash, side shoots begin to actively grow.

Bush formation

Zelentsy - gherkin type, the size of the fruits is approximately the same, 10-12 cm in length, weight - about 85 g. Fruits are cylindrical, with slightly noticeable ribbing. The skin is covered with small tubercles with small spines, slightly pubescent. Skin color - dark emerald, dense, crispy. The taste of the pulp is sweetish, slightly crunchy. Ripe fruits are devoid of bitterness. One of the main nuances in the development of fruits is the extended period of their ripening.

The seeds are small and are not felt when eaten fresh. They are unsuitable for further planting.

On a note. The variety is versatile and can be eaten fresh, it is perfect for pickling and canning due to the small size of zelents.

Other advantages of this vegetable are high yield (up to 8-8.5 kg per 1 m2), good transportability. The harvested crop can transfer transportation over long distances without losing its presentation and taste.

Harvest

The Adam cucumbers are good for barrel and compost pits cultivation without the need for special shrub formation. The foliage of this vegetable is less than medium in size, so the fruits are well illuminated by the sun's rays and blown by a light breeze, they are easy to pick as they ripen.

Vegetables are highly resistant to most diseases, in particular to powdery mildew.

Growing and caring for Adam cucumber

Planting the seeds of these cucumbers is possible directly in the ground, but in the middle lane and regions with a similar climate, it is advisable to pre-grow seedlings at home.

Pre-treatment of purchased seeds is not required, as this has already been done by the manufacturer of the seed.But before sowing, the seeds should be soaked to peck. In regions with a cool climate, the seeds must undergo a hardening procedure, for this they are placed in the refrigerator for 24 hours before planting.

Seed soaking

For seedlings, seeds are planted one by one in peat pots, in which the seedlings are then planted in a permanent place in the garden. Before the emergence of mass seedlings emergence, the temperature in the room should be kept in the region of 25-26⸰С.

Important! If there is not enough light in the greenhouse, lamps should be installed so that the plants do not stretch up.

Transplanting seedlings into open ground is carried out when the soil warms up to 17 ° C to a depth of more than 10-12 cm, and the threat of spring cold snaps has passed.

When growing seedlings, you should feed the seedlings a couple of times with nitrofosky or other complex mineral fertilizer, and 7-10 days before transplanting the plants to a permanent place, you need to start hardening. For this, the plants are first briefly taken out into fresh air (for 15-20 minutes), gradually increasing the time the seedlings are on the balcony or loggia. You can plant seeds in open ground from the second half of May.

Top dressing

When planting seedlings in open ground, the distance between plants should be at least 30 cm, and the distance between rows should be at least 70 cm.

Requirements for the site for planting these cucumbers:

  • good sunlight;
  • fertile and loose soil.

Next, you need to make sure that the top layer of the soil is constantly wet and loose, weeds must be removed constantly. Also, cucumbers require regular fertilization - organic and mineral. Usually, such dressings are applied in turn.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The main advantage of the variety is the ability to harvest early.

Other benefits of Adam cucumber:

  • early maturity;
  • seed germination - above 95%;
  • self-pollination;
  • greens ripen gradually;
  • the harvested crop is universal: good for conservation and for fresh consumption;
  • ripe fruits do not have bitterness;
  • a ripening crop can remain on the lashes, without coarsening and without changing its color;
  • the variety is recommended for growing almost throughout the country;
  • forming whips is easy even for beginners;
  • the plant is resistant to powdery mildew, cucumber mosaic, olive spot.

The variety has few disadvantages:

  • the skin of the fruit is too rough;
  • on the plots of summer residents, the yield is high, but it is better not to grow this variety on an industrial scale;
  • these cucumbers require regular watering and fertilization, otherwise their taste is significantly impaired;
  • the variety has a weak resistance to downy mildew.

Hybrid Adam, with proper planting of seed and further care in the garden, gives a good harvest of gherkins, which have an excellent presentation and good taste. It does not require shaping, and it is easy to pick ripe fruits when tied to trellises. It should be noted that the specific feature of the hybrids is that their seeds are not harvested for further cultivation.
