Starting from the last month of winter, gardeners sow seeds of various cultivated plants to obtain seedlings, with the aim of subsequent planting in open soil. Grape growers, in the same period, begin rooting grapes with cuttings in order to obtain seedlings.

This method of plant propagation is quite popular among gardeners. Most often it is used for growing grapes from cuttings in the spring. Rooting at home allows you to get strong seedlings that grow much better than those bought on the market and planted directly in the ground.

Rooting and planting grapes by cuttings in the spring in the ground can be carried out in several different ways, which will be discussed below.

Rooting cuttings in water

Many people learned how to propagate grapes from the candidate of agricultural sciences P.P.Radchensky. At the beginning of spring, the seedlings are removed from storage. This period of time is the most favorable for rooting. When using the method of cuttings in water, it will be possible to plant seedlings in the ground already in May. Since the vine is sun-loving, the plant should not be kept under a roof for long.

Rooting step-by-step instructions

The method itself consists in performing the following steps step by step:

  1. First of all, you need to make a fresh cut from the bottom of the cutting. The procedure is performed with a sharp knife along the surface of the old cut. You need to remove a very thin layer.
  2. In order for the stem to be saturated with moisture, it must be placed in a container with water. The tank should be filled with boiled or purified water.
  3. The grape cutting should be periodically removed from the container and washed under running clean water. Otherwise, it will rot.
  4. The water in the bottle is changed daily until the cut swells and brightens, which indicates the formation of wound tissue, which will become the basis for the roots.
  5. After the formation of a protective wound layer, water should be added to the level of the second lower eye. The root system eventually appears below the water level.
  6. During this period, in order not to disturb the plant, activated charcoal (several tablets) should be added to the water - so it will not be possible to change it.
  7. After 12-14 days, the buds will bloom at the disembarkation. During this period, the workpiece actively absorbs water, so it must be refilled regularly.
  8. After a few weeks, the root will begin to germinate actively. When the length reaches three millimeters, it should be moved into the soil, otherwise it will suffocate due to lack of oxygen.
  9. Planting is possible in a plastic bottle, flower pot or any other suitable container with the ability to make holes in the bottom for drainage.

The bottom of the selected container is covered with expanded clay, fine gravel or ordinary sand. Then the middle layer is poured - soil, which can be bought at any flower shop. From above it is sprinkled with sand. The plant should be planted in the middle of the pot. Watering is carried out with water at room temperature.

For reference! In order for rooting at home to go well, you need to take into account a number of related factors. So, the temperature in the room should be at least 25 degrees, otherwise, the whole procedure will be significantly delayed.

When choosing a stalk, you need to select large blanks, since they are much easier to root. The grape variety also plays an important role - one is easy to grow, while others are almost impossible to graft. It is difficult for novice growers to make the right choice, therefore, if difficulties arise, you should seek help from more experienced gardeners.

Landing in open ground

How can you plant grapes with cuttings? The final stage of the entire procedure is landing in open ground. The famous scientist left instructions on how to properly plant grapes in spring with cuttings. Of course, you only need to transfer the shank to open ground after it has turned into a seedling with a strong root system. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Dig a hole of sufficient depth.
  2. Carefully remove the seedling from the container so as not to expose or damage the root.
  3. Transplant the plant into the prepared hole.

If all actions are performed correctly, the transplant can be performed painlessly for the seedling. He will not feel any significant changes in the conditions of his stay. It is necessary to ensure that the hole is of sufficient size, and the soil is soft, otherwise the root system may be constrained and its development slowed down.

It must be remembered that the future vineyard received much less sunlight on the windowsill than under the new conditions of existence, therefore, burns on young leaves may appear during the adaptation period. To prevent such situations, you need to make a canopy or shelter for the seedling, preventing direct sunlight.

For reference! Even regular newspapers are suitable for creating shelter. In this case, the seedling should stand under a canopy for at least a week, and best of all - until the leaves are completely darkened.

A very big advantage of using the Radchensky method is the immunity of seedlings from a number of parasites, including such a dangerous one as a nematode.

In addition to this option, there are many other ways of grape cuttings - rooting in a closet, in sawdust, several methods of kilchevaya. Also in viticulture, the propagation of grapes by green cuttings in summer is very popular. All will be described in more detail below.

Rooting on the closet

It is also possible to cut sprouts according to the method proposed by Puzeny N.L. Germination is performed by wrapping blanks in a dense damp cloth. On top of the fabric, the lower part of the cuttings is wrapped with foil. Plants prepared in this way are left in the closet in a horizontal position. At the same time, make sure that the top is in colder conditions. This can be achieved by directing them towards a window or wall. If you neglect this condition, then the whole shank will bloom.

Important! In the cabinet, temperature readings should be less than 25 degrees. The fabric should be constantly damp, which can be achieved by occasional spraying.

This method of growing grapes is popular due to its simplicity and good roots.

Using the method recommended by N. Puzenko, one must remember that germination is possible by choosing cuttings that are at least 70 millimeters thick, otherwise the roots will not appear.

The root sprouts in about a month, and the buds do not wake up. After the roots reach a length of 1-2 millimeters, you need to plant the seedlings in the ground, if the winter was prolonged or frosts are possible (for example, in the Moscow region and other northern regions, as well as in central Russia), you can transplant the seedlings into a bottle before the onset of heat made of plastic filled with suitable soil.

Rooting in sawdust

You can grow good seedlings using a mixture of sawdust with a little sand added. It is possible to propagate grapes in this way only after preliminary preparatory work:

  1. Sawdust must be poured with boiling water and squeezed thoroughly.
  2. Pour them into a container and mix with a diluting substance (sand or hydrogel).
  3. Insert the selected shank into it and close it with foil on top.
  4. Put on a windowsill and water periodically.

After 2-3 weeks, the film can be removed and the presence of the root system can be seen. If the result is positive, you need to plant the shoots in the ground. If there are no roots yet, you need to close the blanks again with foil and wait. This method is considered the fastest and easiest.

Kilchevanie

Reproduction of grapes by rooting shanks by placing them in different temperature conditions. The method is characterized by the fact that the formation of roots occurs, but the buds remain in a dormant state. Kilchevanie gives almost 100% probability of the formation of a root system in the cuttings. Below are some popular methods.

Kilchev in an earthen pit

A pit is prepared in the ground, into which the selected cutting is placed. Due to the difference in temperatures and conditions of residence, the upper part remains in a dormant state, and a good root system is formed in the lower one. Also, when applying this method, you need to consider the following nuances:

  1. A day before being placed in the pit, the stalk must be placed in water.
  2. The hole should be 20 centimeters deeper than the workpiece itself.
  3. The width of the pit depends on the number of seedlings to be planted.
  4. The bottom of the pit should be covered with sand 10 centimeters thick.
  5. The upper part of the cuttings must be immersed in a clay solution before planting.
  6. All cuttings are tied together and plunged into the pit.
  7. For backfill, you need to make a mixture of sand and sawdust.
  8. From above, the cuttings are also covered with sawdust or sand, and also covered with foil.
  9. You need to inspect the blanks for the presence of a root system in two weeks. If not, then the procedure is repeated. With the development of the roots, the seedlings are transplanted directly into the open ground.

Keeping in a low temperature room

This method is available only for those growers who have at their disposal a room with a constant temperature that does not rise above 7 degrees. Also for the cuttings you need to make a special heating. The cuttings must first be soaked.

The procedure itself consists in preparing the place where sand is poured, heating is placed (this is the middle layer), and sawdust is poured onto it, into which the cuttings are placed. Wet sawdust is poured around them. At the end of all preparations, the heating is switched on for 14 days. Then a check is made for the presence of roots, if they are not there, you need to wait another week, then you can open all the shoots and transplant into the ground.

Copulation vaccination

In summer, grape propagation by means of green cuttings is widely practiced. This is especially true of latitudes where phylloxera is found. The method is applicable at the vegetative stage of plant life.

To correctly carry out copulation, you need to step by step through the following steps:

  1. In the fall, before the buds have developed, you should pick up bushes for the rootstock. Layering is perfect for these purposes.
  2. Shoots should be cut off from the selected specimens and spud.
  3. When new shoots grow up to a height of 20 centimeters, only 8 should be left, and the rest should be cut off.
  4. Immediately before copulation, all leaves and other green elements are removed from the stock.
  5. Vaccination is carried out with an oblique cut on the shoot, which has one eye.

The escape must be wrapped in polyvinyl chloride, and on top - with soft winding. In the fall, it should be cut for winter storage. And in the spring, plant in open soil. Reproduction of grapes by green cuttings in summer is quite popular among gardeners.

Landing in the ground

To date, planting cuttings in the ground is done in two ways - in pits or trenches. They are popular for a number of benefits:

  1. It is convenient to fertilize and water them.
  2. Preparing for wintering.
  3. If necessary, you can build a greenhouse.

The trench should be about 45 centimeters wide and 30 centimeters deep. Fertilizers are applied immediately before planting. For each seedling 2 grams of wood ash and 150 grams of potassium-phosphorus fertilizer. They are introduced into the soil, mixed with it and watered. You also need to carry out processing with manganese.

Rooting of grapes is quite popular among gardeners and winegrowers. It can be done in many different ways, each of which has several advantages. Planting ready-made seedlings in the ground can also be performed in various ways that allow you to choose the method for the future growth of the vine - weaving, bush, vertical growth, etc.
