Tomatoes have their origin from South America, and the name was given to them from the Italian pomo d'oro, translated as "golden apple", and from the French tomate. Both names are used in Russian.

The tomato was brought to Russia in the 17th century as an ornamental plant. Russian scientist agronomist A.T. Bolotov achieved the recognition of tomatoes as a vegetable crop. Even 70 years ago, scientists with the help of selection were able to improve the varieties of tomatoes and their diversity. Literally at the beginning of 2000, breeders from Russia bred the Negritenok tomato - this is an author's series that is successful with our gardeners.

Amateurs grow a varietal variety of black tomatoes both in greenhouses, and under a film, and on balconies and on window sills.

Tomato Negritenok: characteristics and description of the variety

Tomato Negritok belongs to the indeterminate plants of the Solanaceae family. This means that it can be up to 4 meters high. But in order to achieve high yields, it is necessary to remove the top of the plant up to 1.5-2 m.

Leaves, like a normal plant, are of medium size - 15-20 cm, corrugated, green.

Frost resistance, in comparison with other varieties, is high. Temperature resistance up to +7. It can be grown both in the open field and in greenhouses without special heating.

The yield of the variety is medium early. Ripening begins 115 days after planting in the ground. The variety is self-pollinated. The inflorescences are complex. Bloom - from June to August. Fruiting begins from July to September.

The fruit has an exotic color ranging from dark brown to black. The pulp is red, inside it there are chambers filled with gelatinous pulp, protected by a denser pulp and skin.

The taste of the Negritenok tomato variety is sweet. Tomato berries weigh 100-150 g. The surface is ribbed, have a flat-rounded shape.

Additional Information. Tomatoes begin to darken during ripening: from initial green, intermediate dark red, brown to black.

There is resistance to diseases inherent in Nightshade crops (cladosporia, tobacco mosaic virus).

Agricultural technology of cultivation

Although Negro Tomatoes are resistant to disease, the seedlings need special conditions to get strong seedlings. This will be the key to a good harvest.

Forcing seeds

Before planting on seedlings, the planting material must be treated with a solution of potassium permanganate for 20 minutes, then rinsed with running water and kept in a stimulating solution for 5-6 hours. Floating seeds must be discarded immediately. Settled - wrap in cotton cloth, after 3-7 days sprouts will appear. Use only germinated seeds for planting.

Land preparation

It is necessary to disinfect it, steam it or freeze it. It should consist of garden soil with compost; if there is insufficient looseness, peat should be added.

Landing

Seeds for seedlings should be planted at a distance of 23 cm, sprinkling with moist earth, with a layer of 5-7 mm, and put in a warm place. In the beginning, the temperature should be high - + 24-25 C, when the seeds sprout, the temperature must be maintained at + 12-15 and + 8-10 C at night. Provide lighting for at least 11 hours a day. The temperature can be lowered when the first shoots appear from + 24C to + 12-15C during the day and 8-10 C at night. At this time, seedlings should be watered moderately. Apply top dressing at intervals of 2-3 weeks.

The greenhouse environment is comfortable and conducive to good plant growth, while at the same time it is a favorable environment for various insects, viruses and fungi. Therefore, before transplanting seedlings into a greenhouse, it must be carefully treated with disinfectant solutions, as well as equipment.

The land for planting the Negritenok variety cannot be used on which nightshade crops grew: potatoes, peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, in order to avoid the same disease - late blight. Planting distance should be 40 cm and 60 cm between rows.

If it is supposed to be grown in a greenhouse, then the material is planted for seedlings in the first half of March, and in the second decade of March - for open ground.

Planting tomatoes in a greenhouse

It is necessary to plant tall seedlings in the ground at an angle, sprinkling with soil, which will give an additional root system and ensure better growth and strength of the plant. It is advisable to have 3 plants per 1 square meter. Put compost, ash, mineral fertilizers into the holes for planting, water.

Care

Watering should be done every 7-10 days, depending on the weather, weeding, loosening, feeding with a mullein or other nitrogen fertilizers are also required.

When the ovaries are formed, a potassium-phosphorus supplement should be introduced, in the morning, water at the root.

The stem of a tomato is powerful and tall, it needs to be cropped at a height of no higher than 2 meters. To avoid bending and breaking under the weight of the fruit, the plant must be tied up. It is recommended to do this in the initial flowering phase. A peg is driven in not far from the stem, and fastening is done under the ovary with twine (better synthetic). In the greenhouse, you can tie it up with a string and trellis.

Trellis for tomatoes

Ovaries will appear, if you do not forget to mulch at high humidity, if dry, water more often, ventilate, you can shake the plants for better pollination.

Be sure to monitor the appearance of the plant. Remove yellowed leaves in time. Carry out work to repel insects.

The main pests are whiteflies, Colorado beetles, slugs, and wireworms. In the fight against parasites in summer cottages, spraying is carried out and more often infusions of garlic, birch tar, wormwood are used, harmless to humans.

On a note. You should immediately destroy the Colorado potato beetle at the first detection of an insect, without waiting for their larvae to appear.

The wireworm can only be found after it hurts. Therefore, in order to combat underground pests, it is necessary to dig and liming the soil in the spring.
