Almost every summer resident in the garden has tomatoes. It is a plant of the Solanaceae family of the genus Solanum. It comes from South America, where it is even found in the wild. They are often grown in a greenhouse, but sometimes outdoors. The culture has time to give a crop, even in the middle lane, which is why it is so popular with gardeners. Through the efforts of breeders, many varieties of tomatoes have been bred, different in terms of ripening, size of bushes, taste and marketability of the crop, and even color of fruits.

Characteristics and description of the tomato variety Polbig f1

One of the most famous tomato varieties among gardeners is the hybrid Polbig f1, which is the result of the efforts of Dutch breeders. Among the seeds imported from abroad, seeds from the Netherlands lead the market. This tomato variety is grown not only in Russia, but also in Ukraine and Moldova. It is classified as a precocious variety, meaning that it can be harvested very early. The first Polbig tomatoes in the middle lane turn red by mid-July. The period from emergence to full ripening of fruits is 90-110 days.

It tolerates small cold weather, suitable for planting in a greenhouse or greenhouse, and in open ground. Although designed primarily for open field cultivation. Variety Polbig F1 has a determinant bush, that is, undersized. Its height ranges from 65-85 cm. The f1 code indicates that the seeds grown from this plant will not have its characteristics. Unlike varietal plants, hybrids do not pass on their properties to subsequent generations.

An undoubted advantage is the fact that Polbik tomatoes are resistant to many common diseases: late blight, Alternaria, Verticillium and Fusarium rot. Due to its very fast and early ripening, the fruits of this hybrid appear before the season of affection of other crops by late blight begins.

Tomato Polbig

The variety is characterized by excellent transportability. The tomato owes these properties to its dense skin. Therefore, this crop is suitable for sale. Due to its early maturity, this tomato is the first to appear on the shelves of stores and markets. This variety keeps well and ripens when picked green.

Hybrid tomato Polbig f1 has the following features:

  • large yields from a bush - an average of 4 kg during the growing season;
  • compact plant that does not branch;
  • large leaves with a dark green color and a standard shape;
  • the bushes must be tied up, otherwise the fruits, touching the ground, will begin to rot;
  • needs to remove stepchildren;
  • has a simple inflorescence;
  • tomatoes are light green at first, and then evenly turn red;
  • fruits are flat-rounded with smooth skin, slightly ribbed;
  • the weight of one piece reaches 200 g, and when grown in greenhouse conditions - 100 g;
  • forms a brush with about 7 fruits;
  • inside the fruit is dense and fragrant;
  • taste is not very high, therefore it is used most often in blanks;
  • early ripening variety;
  • resistant to almost all common tomato diseases.

Advantages and disadvantages

Another characteristic feature of the Polbig variety is the ability to form fruit ovaries at a relatively low temperature. According to experienced gardeners, this variety very rarely forms barren flowers.

Important! Hybrid varieties are mostly self-pollinated, but when planted in a greenhouse, the result will be better if bumblebees have access there.

In reviews of the Polbig tomato variety, gardeners note its positive qualities: early maturity, resistance to disease and cold.

The disadvantages include the need for tying and pinching, as well as not very good taste. The fruits are quite juicy, but slightly sour.

Planting and leaving

With proper care, the variety has a high yield also in the northern regions. Even for not very experienced gardeners, growing Polbig f1 tomatoes will not cause trouble. This variety does not differ much in agricultural technology from other determinant varieties.

For Polbig f1 tomatoes, the planting technology is quite standard. At the beginning of April, seeds are sown for seedlings, and already grown bushes are planted in the ground, no earlier than two months later. Seeds purchased in packages do not need additional processing, because they have passed it in production. For seedlings, the optimum air temperature is 25C.

It is important to provide the plants with good moisture, using humidifiers or by spraying them with a spray bottle. When the first leaves appear, the tomatoes must be placed in a well-lit place so that the plants are strong and do not stretch up much. If this is not possible, then fluorescent lamps are used. For several days, the temperature is lowered to 14C, and then brought to the previous mark, thus the seedlings are hardened.

You need warmth and light

The distance between plants is kept within 30-50 cm. The most optimal planting density for obtaining a high yield is 5-7 bushes per square meter. It is recommended to irrigate with “Solution” or “Kemira” preparations, following the instructions on the packs. At the stage of fruit formation, tomatoes are fertilized with the preparation "Ovary". This is not a mandatory procedure, but it will help to increase the yield of tomatoes.

To stimulate the growth of seedlings, superphosphate is introduced into the soil in advance. After planting, the tomatoes are watered with warm water. When planting in open ground, the plants should be hidden under the covering material at night. This should be done until the temperature is above zero at night.

Important! Watering the seedlings during planting should be abundant.

Basic rules for growing tomatoes Polbig:

  • Seedlings are grown in containers filled with peat and mixed soil;
  • After the appearance of several leaves on the plants, they dive;
  • Before planting seedlings in the ground, it is recommended to carry out hardening procedures at a temperature of about 14C;
  • Tomatoes will grow well where there used to be zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, dill or cauliflower;
  • Optimally, the bush should have 2-3 stems.

In addition to organic fertilizers, iodine, boric acid, yeast, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide are also used for tomatoes as top dressing. Watering tomatoes with a boric acid solution can increase their sugar content.

Caring for tomatoes in open ground or in a greenhouse consists of periodic weeding, loosening the soil and timely watering at the root. In this case, you must ensure that there is not too much moisture. Also, mulching of the soil is carried out in tomatoes.

Despite the mediocre taste, the hybrid tomato variety Polbig f1 is recognized by many summer residents and is widespread. All disadvantages are compensated for by the early appearance of fruits, resistance to diseases and high yields.
