Various hybrids of tomato crops at all times were very popular among amateur gardeners, since they combined the best qualities of many known species. In this sense, Sunrise tomatoes can be attributed to universal varieties, which follows not only from their characteristics, but also from the wide possibilities of eating (including pickling and pickling).

Another characteristic feature contributes to this attitude towards this type of hybrid culture - the ability to grow in almost any regions of Russia, which differ significantly in their climatic conditions.

The country where this variety of tomatoes was first grown is Holland, and it was bred by local amateur breeders who are enthusiasts in their field. The enviable fertility of the resulting hybrid, as well as its unpretentiousness (the requirements for caring for it are minimal) immediately attracted the attention of gardeners all over the world.

This type of tomato hybrid was especially liked by Ukrainian gardeners, in the territory of which it is still actively grown.

Description and characteristics

The Sunrise tomato in question is usually classified as a determinant variety that ripens relatively early and therefore allows a large harvest to be harvested. The tomato in this type of garden crops in its ripe form has a slightly reddish tint; however, its pulp looks quite juicy and has a slightly sour taste.

Tomato Sunrise

In addition, the Sunrise tomatoes, the characteristic and description of the variety which are supposed to be considered in this section, grow on a small-sized stem (its height does not usually exceed 60 centimeters). During its growth, such a bush needs compulsory pinching.

According to the timing of its ripening, the sunrise variety belongs to early ripening, since, as a rule, no more than 2.5 months pass from the appearance of its seedlings to readiness for harvest. From one such bush, with proper care for the entire current season, it is possible to collect at least 5 kilograms of ripe and juicy vegetables.

Note! It is not at all necessary to tie it to any supports at all stages of growth.

The tomato itself has a rounded shape, slightly flattened in the area of the stalk. The skin of a mature tomato is quite dense and not prone to cracking, and it itself can weigh about 250 grams by weight.

The undoubted advantages of this plant include the compact size of its bush, which allows you to place a decent number of them even on a relatively small garden plot. At the same time, the high frequency of planting individual bushes does not at all affect the quality of the fruits and the yield of the crop as a whole.

Its cultivation is possible not only in favorable greenhouse conditions, but also in the open air (directly in the ground in the beds). We also note that the ripe fruits of this type of tomato can be used both fresh and intended for the manufacture of pastes, juices, sauces and canned food.

Pros and cons of hybrid variety

In a comparative analysis of Sunrise tomatoes, the description of which was discussed above, it can be concluded that their advantages are:

  • High rate of crop yield;
  • Lack of an urgent need for a garter of bushes;
  • Resistance to most of the known diseases characteristic of plants of the Solanaceae family;
  • Short period of final ripening and compactness of the tomato bush;

Important! When grown in greenhouses, the crop can be harvested throughout the entire calendar year.

  • Good transportability of ripe fruits.

However, all of the above positive qualities of the tomato sunrise variety can be crossed out by its only drawback, which is that this hybrid is not particularly distinguished by its taste. The most suitable field of application for it is use for juicing and preservation.

Agricultural technology of cultivation

Planting seeds

The ripening time of seedlings in greenhouse conditions is determined by the current season. For the winter season, they are approximately two months, while for summer and spring, this period is reduced to 5-6 weeks, respectively. Seeds are sown in pre-prepared boxes filled with a peat mixture with the addition of vermiculite.

Tomatoes grow in boxes

Immediately before starting landing operations, you must firmly grasp the following rules:

  • Seed planting is carried out in holes about a centimeter deep, made in well-moistened soil;
  • If the seed was purchased from a commercial network, it is not necessary to soak it immediately before sowing;
  • Planting procedures end with intensive watering of the ground using a watering can with a fine mesh, after which the boxes or containers with seedlings are placed in a warm place.

All subsequent watering of the sprouts should also be done very carefully, splitting the stream of water slightly warmed in the sun into very small parts.

You can start picking sprouted seedlings in a couple of weeks, tying it to the time when at least one leaf appears on the sprout. In the process of transplanting into more spacious containers, it is advisable to pinch the largest root, which will allow the seedling to form lateral processes. After a pick, a container with sprouts is installed on any well-lit windowsill.

You need warmth and light

Transplanting seedlings

You can start transplanting seedlings to seedlings somewhere in mid-May, when it is already old enough (several leaves should appear under its lower brush by this time). When carrying out this operation, the following points must be considered:

  • The beds for planting should be prepared in advance by carefully digging up the ground and removing all weeds from it;
  • After that, you can start planting bushes, placed according to the "50x50" scheme (in centimeters);
  • If small beds are allocated for planting, the distance between adjacent plants can be reduced.

On a note. It is worth paying attention to the fact that at the initial stage of growth, the seedlings will need to be covered with insulation material at night.

Seedlings (bushes) care

This variety of tomatoes does not require any special care, so when growing it, the usual measures are quite enough, involving the following mandatory operations:

  • Weeding growing bushes and their systematic watering;
  • Thorough loosening of the upper soil layer;
  • Periodic top dressing (fertilization).

During the entire period of growth of seedlings, the number of their watering can vary from 5 to 10 times (a specific figure is chosen, depending on the climatic conditions of the region). At the same time, for each such procedure, at least 30 liters of water heated in the sun should be spent (per unit area).

Additional Information. Many gardeners manage to introduce special drip systems into the practice of caring for tomatoes, which, along with the obvious conveniences, provide the possibility of saving water consumption.

As a nutritional supplement, it is recommended to use such mineral compositions as potassium and ammonium nitrate, the bulk of which is introduced at the stage of fruit ripening. In addition, a good result is obtained with the use of phosphorus fertilizers (superphosphate, in particular).A good effect can be achieved using organic matter, including urea, manure, wood ash and decayed foliage (compost).

In addition, during the growth period, the Sunrise tomato necessarily requires pinching, carried out on the section of the stem to the lower brush with fruits. To obtain material for new seedlings, individual amateur gardeners use the most ripe tomatoes from the harvest, preserving the seeds and drying them until the beginning of the next season.

It is much easier to buy quality seed material from a specialized store. Immediately before sowing, they should be carefully selected, for which the seeds are temporarily placed in salt water. All samples that float to the surface are rejected and removed from the planting material.

Diseases and protection from them

The variety in question is also good in that it is resistant to most of the known diseases characteristic of tomato crops.

Disease resistant

Among the parasites that can bring noticeable harm to the tomato, first of all, it is necessary to highlight the vegetable aphid, the Colorado potato beetle, and also thrips. The plant's ability to resist them can be enhanced if, at the initial stage of the growing season, the seedlings are treated with special protective compounds (chemicals that are freely sold in stores).

In conclusion, we note that the plant considered in the review is easy to cultivate, which can be carried out both in the garden bed and in a greenhouse well protected from frost. Most gardeners speak favorably about him, especially emphasizing the attractive appearance of the fruits, as well as the high yield of the crop itself. All of these factors allow for the commercial cultivation and cultivation of Sunrise tomatoes.
