Home violet, or saintpaulia, is a very common plant. The selection of new varieties with amazingly beautiful flowers, such as the Ice Rose violet, does not stop. Many also love this houseplant for its relative ease of care.

The history of the creation of the Saintpaulia Ice Rose variety

The Saintpaulia Ice Rose variety is the result of the labors of the breeder Svetlana Repkina. The main distinguishing feature is the large double flowers. They are white in color, but in the middle they are colored lilac. The leaves are large, rich green. The name is often attributed to the letters "PC", which means Repkina Svetlana, or in the English version "RS". The plant is collectible.

Description of the variety

The ice rose attracts attention with its bright petals. It is interesting that with each new bloom, the structure and shade of flowers changes. The petals themselves are white, but smoothly turn into a cherry or lilac tone. The border has a pronounced light green or yellow tint. The violet forms 5-6 flowers on average.

Large green leaves have wavy edges. They grow from the center to the edges, while forming a dense rosette.

Note! The air temperature affects the color of the Ice Rose - below + 20 ° С white predominates, and above + 26 ° С brighter shades.

The rosette of the Ice Rose can be up to 40 cm. One peduncle bears from 2 to 4 buds. The color of the petals, that is, the ratio of white and lilac, as well as their size, is also influenced by the conditions of maintenance and care. But even with the same agrotechnical measures, the buds may be different. In this case, they will be influenced by the condition of the plant roots and the acidity index of the soil.

As soon as the flower blooms, the petals are white in color, and then crimson and lilac blotches appear. The buds on the peduncle do not bloom at the same time. One will fade, and the other is just beginning to open. Large flowers tilt the peduncles to the leaves. It is important to tidy the outlet before the flowers begin to appear. The appearance of the violet depends on its health, because flower stalks are formed in the axils of the leaves.

Features of care for Saintpaulia Ice Rose

For abundant and long-lasting flowering, the violet must receive good care. It is necessary to choose the right pot with soil, air temperature, lighting and humidity levels.

Violet Ice Rose

The soil should be fertile and breathable. It is recommended to purchase special soil mixtures with nutrients. The pot should be sized to fit the outlet. If you choose too large a container, the violet will develop a root system, but it will stop blooming. In a pot of the appropriate size, the plant will quickly fill the space with roots and there will be no problems with flowering.

Lighting is a very important factor for the life and development of the Ice Rose violet. In summer, daylight will be enough, and in winter it is necessary to extend the daylight hours to the plant with the help of fluorescent lamps. The air temperature should not fall below + 20 ° С. Under these conditions, Saintpaulia will grow strong and bloom regularly.

Violet is sensitive to humidity - it should be at 50%.

Important! In winter, it is recommended to place a container of water next to the plant or use a humidifier.

When watering, it is also important to follow simple rules:

  • the water must be settled;
  • water temperature for irrigation is maintained at room temperature - from + 20 ° С to + 25 ° С.

If you water Saintpaulia with too warm or cold water, it will lead to disease and death of the flower.

Important! When watering, it is impossible for water to fall on leaves and flowers.

After planting, the violet does not require fertilization for 6 months. The soil contains enough nutrients. Further, the plant is fed on the basis of a simple rule - when the leaves grow, nitrogen is added, during flowering - potassium. Fertilize once every 2 weeks. We can recommend Kemira-Lux.

The violet may not bloom. And since this is the main function of a decorative flower, they try to identify and eliminate the causes in time. As a rule, the lack of flowering is due to the lack of phosphorus in the soil. Fertilize the plant with phosphoric solution to increase bud formation.

The most attractive age for Saintpaulia RS Ice Rose is 2.5 years - it is the most decorative. As the plant grows older, a long stem appears that cannot be removed even during transplantation. After 3 years of life, the violet begins to form small flowers. The rosette grows, stepchildren and children appear, thanks to which the neat appearance of the violet disappears. This is a sign of old age in Saintpaulia.

In this case, the flower must be rejuvenated - cut off the upper part of the rosette and root it in water or soil. Also, the method is effective when you need to save a violet with a rotten root.

Planting violets

Reproduction of violets

Reproduction of Saintpaulias occurs by leaves. They are rooted in soil or water. To do this, cut off a leaf with a petiole from the second row of the outlet, and, depending on the method, do the following:

  • place it in a container of boiled water and wait for the roots to appear at least 1 cm long. After that, the violet is planted in a pot with a special loose soil;
  • if rooted immediately in the ground, then the leaf is placed immediately in the ground. The cutting is dropped to a depth of no more than 2 cm. Baking powder perlite and vermiculite are added to the soil.

Violet seedlings must be kept in greenhouse conditions, this is done using polyethylene or a plastic container on top. In some cases, instead of a leaf for reproduction, a peduncle is taken. Actions with him are similar to a leaf with a handle.

It is worth remembering that a violet grown from a cutting will not always possess the qualities of a parent flower. It can have a different color with green tips of petals curled into a fringe.

Additional Information. Such plants are called sports. They have the same decorative appearance as varietal violets, but are unsuitable for further breeding. Nevertheless, sports violets have wavy leaves, larger buds and longer flowering. Such a plant will become a decoration of the collection, although it is not able to reproduce.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The advantages of the Ice Rose violet are beautiful flowering and relatively undemanding care. The disadvantages include the fact that children do not always inherit the parental color.

The ice rose takes its rightful place among the decorative violets. Its flowers are beautiful and unusual, and if the plant begins to age, it can always be rejuvenated by pruning and rooting.
