Aloha climbing rose was introduced to the public in 2003; German breeders of the Cordes company have been working on its breeding for a long time. This flower cannot leave anyone indifferent, and all thanks to the lush buds in the Bourbon style, the color of which smoothly changes from delicate peach to scarlet. Climber Aloha climbing rose: description, care and cultivation is the topic of today's article.

Rose Aloha: description and characteristics

Rose Aloha was officially registered in 2003 in the Climbers section. Today there are several official names for a blossoming perennial culture:

  • Kordes Rose Aloha;
  • Aloha;
  • Korwesrug;
  • Aloha Hawaii.

Important! This variety has a "namesake". Aloha rose of American origin, which was bred back in 1949. Today, in Europe and Russia, only the German hybrid is very popular.

This plant is difficult to confuse with others, due to its unique appearance. During flowering, large goblet buds are formed, later dense double flowers of an unusual color are formed, exuding a pleasant and rich aroma. The diameter of a fully opened flower can be 8-10 cm, each flower contains approximately 40 petals. The plant blooms from the second or third ten days of May and lasts until the first frost. Such a long flowering is due to uneven blooming of flowers, the break is completely invisible.

The bush is capable of reaching 3 meters in height, the shoots are very strong, they have a large number of thorns, in addition to thorns on the stems, dense foliage is formed, colored with a rich green color.

Note! This variety does not always show its climbing ability, quite often it is formed in the form of a bush.

Brief description of the culture:

  • The color of the buds is peach-pink-red.
  • Number of buds per stem - from 5 to 10 pcs.
  • The aroma is pleasant and stable.
  • The average flower diameter is 8-10 cm.
  • Height - 2-3 m.
  • Width - 1-1.2 m.
  • Frost resistance indicators are good.
  • Powdery mildew resistance - high.
  • Rain resistance - moderate.
  • The growing area in Russia is the southern part of the Moscow region, Yaroslavl region, as well as Ryazan, Samara and Saratov.
  • Resistance to black spot - high.
  • The flowering period is from late spring to late autumn.
  • The optimal planting time is spring (late April - early May).

Agricultural technology of cultivation

Agronomists often complain that the Aloha rose blooms so beautifully and profusely exclusively in pictures. In fact, it is realistic to achieve such an effect, and in reality, it is enough to choose a suitable place for planting and provide the seedling with fertile soil.

Rose Aloha

Optimal conditions for growing Aloha roses:

  • Well-lit area (daylight hours should be at least 16 hours). Shading is recommended in the late afternoon. This result can be achieved if the plant is planted from the northeastern side of a fence or building. It is important that the interval between them is sufficient for the care of the crop.
  • Aloha does not tolerate drafts and gusts of wind. If you neglect this feature, the rose will really delight its grower with a humble existence. One of the common reasons for poor flowering or lack of flowering is sudden gusts of wind.
  • In terms of size, a shrub can be equal to a tree, which, accordingly, requires a large amount of nutrients from the soil.

Conditions for planting roses

The best time to plant a rose is in spring. It is planted in late April - early May at an angle of approximately 30 degrees relative to the erected support. If the planting site is set aside near a building, it should be noted that water from the roof should not get onto the plant.

Water from the roof must not fall on the plant

There must be drainage at the bottom of the planting pit; it is provided from small stones, gravel or rubble. After the drainage layer, organic fertilizers are added to the pit with a layer of at least 10 cm, and then a layer of soil follows.

Before planting, the agronomist should consider important points:

  • Shortly before planting, it is recommended to soak the planting stalk in a solution that stimulates its growth.
  • The depth of the planting hole must be at least half a meter.
  • The interval between the bushes should be kept at least 1 meter.
  • The rhizome in the hole should be free.

Note!It is recommended to plant a rose in a pair with someone, otherwise it may not be possible to evenly set the stalk in the hole, and also carefully sprinkle it with soil without damaging the roots.

As the hole is covered with soil, it should be carefully tamped so that no cavities form among the roots. After planting, the root collar should be 3 cm above ground level, otherwise the seedling will simply disappear. The bush is watered abundantly at the root, if necessary, add more earth. To protect the seedling from the harmful effects of the environment, its near-stem circle is mulched with a layer of peat.

Aloha rose care

These plants grow willingly on moist and fertile soil, the place must be sunny and free of drafts.

Regular care includes the following procedures:

  • Regular loosening of the soil.
  • Thorough removal of weeds.
  • Preventive measures aimed at preventing the development of diseases and insect attacks.
  • Application of mineral and organic fertilizers.
  • Pruning shoots.

Aloha is a drought-resistant plant, but despite this, watering should be carried out regularly, at least twice a week. The water must be at room temperature. The variety is resistant to black spot and powdery mildew, but prevention of their development should be carried out without fail. The type of fertilizer depends on the season of the year. It is recommended to apply nitrogen-containing mineral fertilizers in spring, and enriched with potassium and / or phosphorus in summer.

The water must be at room temperature.

The most suitable time for pruning a bush is early spring, when the plant is just awakening from hibernation. First of all, you need to understand why pruning is carried out: to ensure early abundant flowering or the formation of the desired bush shape. Depending on the goals, they are distinguished:

  • Strong pruning (they resort to complete rejuvenation of the bush, as a rule, they leave several buds on the shoots).
  • Medium pruning is indicated to ensure early abundant flowering (5-7 buds are left on each shoot).
  • Weak pruning is used to remove old, damaged, diseased shoots.

With the arrival of spring, it is imperative to prune old tops and shoots of shoots. In the fall, it’s time to thin out the shrub and remove damaged shoots. In summer, special attention is paid exclusively to pruning inflorescences, this is necessary to regulate the abundance of flowering.

The plant propagates exclusively in a vegetative way.

The plant propagates exclusively in a vegetative way. It is recommended to harvest cuttings for planting after the first flowering of the plant. For reproduction, strong, young and, necessarily, healthy shoots are selected.

Aloha rose well withstands a drop in air temperature to -8 degrees, so do not rush to cover the bush for the winter. It is recommended to make shelter for the winter when persistent frosts come. Before wintering, the bushes must be cut off, and the near-stem circle is mulched using sand, peat or sawdust. Further, the plant is removed from the support and the shoots are bent to the ground surface.

Advantages and disadvantages

The plant quickly gained widespread popularity; today it is in great demand in European cities. This is due to numerous advantageous features:

  • During flowering, the color of the petals constantly changes. The half-open buds are creamy with shades of orange peel, pink and red shades prevail as they open.
  • At the initial stage of its flowering, the bud is pointed, like a hybrid tea variety of a rose. A fully open flower has a loose structure at the edges that are curved outward.
  • Long-term flowering typically lasts more than three months with minor interruptions.

As for the shortcomings, unfortunately, they also exist. The main ones are:

  • Many flowers form on each stem, and they sag under their weight. To give a climbing plant an attractive shape, it is necessary to tie heavy lashes to a strong support.
  • The shoots are abundantly covered with thorny thorns, which significantly complicates the care of the plant.

Note!AT specialized garden stores can purchase special gloves designed for working with roses.

Rose Aloha is an incredibly attractive but very wayward plant. If he doesn't like something, he will immediately let you know about it. It is also possible for a novice agronomist to grow roses, it is enough to first familiarize yourself with all the features of its planting and growing. Compliance with all the rules of agricultural technology is the key to a healthy and luxuriantly flowering plant!
