Rose Summer Song appeared not so long ago, but has already gained popularity among gardeners in Europe and Russia. In 2007, an Englishman, the famous breeder David Austin, bred a flower culture (some sources indicate 2005).

Summer Song rose is an exclusive cultivar. Its name is translated from English as "Summer song". In the catalog, it goes under the name Austango. The opened flowers are similar to tree-like peonies, which oriental painters depicted on their canvases.

Note! Summer rose seedlings are imported to all countries directly from the British nursery Austin. The variety was tested for frost resistance in the climatic conditions of Canada, St. Petersburg.

Rose Summer Song

Characteristic

The English Rose Summer Song is a repetitive flowering type. Blooms in late May. Blooms profusely, almost continuously for a long time until frost (November).

The plant has excellent frost resistance (withstands temperatures of -20-23 degrees (zone 6)), tolerates bad weather well. Flowers stay on the bushes for a long time. Petals do not fade from sunlight and rain, and do not crumble. They only slightly brighten by the end of flowering.

Note! Rose Summer is characterized by good resistance (above average) to pests, fungal diseases - powdery mildew, black spot.

Growing conditions

It is necessary to choose a sunny, well-protected area from winds and drafts for the Summerson rose. It should be well lit (preferably in the morning) for 6 hours. The eastern side of the garden is best suited, where the sun's rays are active in the morning.

The Summerson rose should be planted at a distance of at least 2 meters from trees, and 1 meter to bushes.

Note! You can not plant a summer rose in the lowlands, as well as where water stagnates, cold air.

Rosa Samer Song prefers light, fertile, humus-rich, loose, breathable, (without waterlogging) soil. Black earth is best suited, but you can also grow on loam.

Acid level (pH 6.0 - 6.5). If the soil is heavy, clayey, compost, sand, humus are added. The soil is acidified with peat, manure. Ash and lime are used to reduce acid.

Important! The groundwater level must be below 1 meter.

Preparing for landing

Floribunda roses are planted in spring (April - May). This period is preferable for the Central zone, cold regions. Prepare the soil in the fall. They dig up the ground, apply mineral fertilizers, compost.

In the autumn (September - early October) planting period, there should be a stock of 1 - 1.5 months before the start of frost, so that the plant has time to take root.

In any case, a pit is made in advance (1 - 2 weeks before the start of work). Plants are bought mainly in packages, so there is no need to cut, soak the roots. In this case, the bush is carefully transplanted, keeping the earthen lump.

If the root system is open, the roots are immersed in water for a day, adding a stimulating drug (for example, Kornevin, Heteroauskin). Too long, damaged roots are cut. They are treated with coal powder.

Note! The soil for the Summer rose should not be overly dense, clayey, sandy, sour, and fast drying.

Landing

Dig a pit with a depth (70 cm), volume (60 cm). The root system of the plant should fit freely.

Any drainage is poured into the bottom of the pit: expanded clay, gravel, small stone, crushed stone (10 cm thick). Lay organic matter: rotted manure or compost (15 cm layer). Ash, superphosphate are introduced. Pour garden soil on top with a slide, pour water (half a bucket).

Important! The root collar is deepened 7-8 cm below the soil surface.

Place the seedling in the middle of the hole. The roots should not touch the fertilizer (leave a distance of 5-6 cm). The plant is covered with earth, compacted, watered abundantly, spud (dry soil). You can mulch the trunk circle with peat.

Care

  • Water rose Summerson abundantly (1-2 times / 7 days). In dry summer, every 3-4 days. Pour 10-15 liters of water under one bush. Sprinkling, spraying is carried out. All irrigation is done in the evening when the sun goes down.

    Rose Summerson is watered abundantly

  • In the first year after the roses are planted, they do not need feeding. Then nitrogen fertilizers are applied in the spring. In summer, potassium-phosphorus substances. They are fed once / 2 - 3 weeks. Fortified supplements, mullein solution, chicken droppings are also used. You can use ASB Greenworld (professional fertilizing, fertilize them once / 3 months). Calculated 1 pack / 100 bushes.
  • Remove timely faded buds to stimulate the emergence of new flowers.
  • Make a short primary pruning of the bushes. This is necessary for the active growth of the lower kidneys. In subsequent seasons, the main branches are shortened by 1/3. Sick, old, thin, dry branches, wild growth are also removed. The procedure is carried out in early spring or late autumn.
  • It is very important to keep clean soil around the bushes. It is necessary to systematically weed weeds, loosen the ground, mulch the near-trunk zones.

Preparing for winter

It is necessary to cover the Summer Song rose for the winter. In the fall, watering is reduced, fertilization is applied for the last time (September).

After the first frosts appear (-5 - 7 degrees), the stems are shortened, shoots, leaves, inflorescences are cut off. First, they clean up plant debris under the bushes, burn it. The bushes are piled up with earth, dry humus, compost.

Spruce branches are laid out between the bushes, as well as on top of them (long branches are bent to the ground, fixed). Arches or wooden, metal structures are arranged over the plants. They should exceed the bushes (by 20 - 30 cm). Cover the constructed frame with a non-woven material. Pull polyethylene over it. Leave the sides of the air.

Preparing for winter

With the arrival of spring (somewhere in March-April), the ends are opened to ventilate the makeshift greenhouse. The film is removed by the end of April. Temporary covering material is left so that the plants gradually get used to the sunlight.

Prevention of diseases, pests

The plant has strong immunity to various diseases, harmful insects. Treatment with fungicides is carried out for preventive purposes.

Advantages and disadvantages

Good qualities of the Summerson variety are:

  • cold resistance;
  • shade tolerance;
  • resistance to diseases, pests;
  • tolerance to various weather conditions (sun, rain);
  • even distribution of flowers throughout the bush;
  • long, repeated flowering period;
  • nice smell.

The Summer Song rose also has some drawbacks.

Despite the fact that the Summer Song rose bush is dense, many gardeners consider it rather "thin". They recommend planting at least three plants at once.

At the bottom of the bush, there is practically no foliage (if, for example, compare with the Shalott rose). Rose growers advise covering the legs of the plant with perennials with "air" crowns or undersized ground cover roses.

Rose Summer Song looks great both alone and in combination with other flowers (especially white, yellow, apricot shades), plants. It is planted in flower beds, in flower beds, like a hedge.
